Autumn 2016 Master Classes

with Linda Styles, Clementina Van Der Walt and Adrian Brough

This autumn the Leach Pottery presents a series of three master classes by leading professional ceramicists Linda Styles, Clementina Van Der Walt and Adrian Brough.

Offering a fantastic opportunity for both intermediate and advanced potters to gain experience in three specific and highly specialised areas of ceramics, these comprehensive one-day courses include lectures, demonstrations and hands on experience at one of the UK's most historic potteries, in the inspirational setting of St Ives. Places are strictly limited so early booking is essential.

 

Tuesday 27 September, 11am to 3pm

Masterclass with Linda Styles | Substance and Surface - Lustre and on Glaze Decorative Techniques

Including an introductory talk, demonstration and hands-on session, this in-depth Master Class explores various aspects of Linda's distinctive ‘maximal' decorative process, including the overlaying of precious metals, on glaze colours and iridescent lustres to bisque and glaze fired terracotta tiles.

Maximum number of students: 8

Cost: £80 per person to include all materials

Saturday 22 October, 10am to 1pm

Demonstration and Talk by Clementina Van Der Walt| South African Ceramics - An Eclectic Narrative

Beginning with a presentation about her own work and that of other contemporary South African ceramicists, this workshop will focus on a demonstration of hand building and cutting away from solid blocks of clay to make both sculptural and functional figurines.

Maximum number of attendees: 12

Cost: £25

Level: Any

 

Wednesday 23 November, 10am to 4pm

Masterclass with Adrian Brough | Stoneware Slipware

This is a throwing masterclass exploring form and more particularly surface, using slips, incising and other creative techniques. Held in the original throwing room of the old Leach pottery, participants in this session will enjoy the unique experience of working on Bernard Leach's historic kick wheels.

Maximum number of students: 5

£150 per person to include all materials

Level: Intermediate/advanced throwers
