Antiquary Care Home staff recognised for Promoting Excellence in Dementia Care

Balhousie Antiquary Care Home staff member, Nancy XXXX, has become the first person within Balhousie Care Group to reach ‘dementia skilled level’ in a newly launched program that aims to Promote Excellence in Dementia Care.

Nancy completed all five modules within the programme to reach the level, including; understanding dementia, promoting person and family centred care, promoting health and wellbeing for those with dementia, meeting the needs of a person with dementia who is distressed and supporting and protecting people’s rights.

Yvonne Manson, Balhousie Care Group Dementia Development Lead, commented:

“Nancy is the first person in the organisation to complete all five modules of her individual workbooks and each module has been completed to a high standard. It’s fantastic to see the time she had taken time to reflect fully on what she had learned on our new Dementia Care Program, which was evident in her answers and she should be very proud of this achievement.

Yvonne continued:

"Antiquary have fully embraced the Dementia Care Program and it is clear that the learning is having a positive impact on the care our residents receive. I’m a great believer in workforce development and the positive outcomes it has had throughout Balhousie Care Group.”

Balhousie Antiquary Care Home have a dedicated team committed to promoting excellence in dementia care. Alongside Nancy, Antiquary’s Dementia Ambassadors, Suzi Baxter and Ann-Marie Edwards, have played a fundamental part in ensuring all staff are educated in the latest dementia care plan and best practices, as well as working to make sure the Care Home environment is fully supported to those living with dementia.
