A four-year-old from Stafford has become one of the youngest students at a local Karate School to achieve a red and white belt.

Savannah Anderson-Morris joined the Midland-based Stafford Martial Arts Karate Academy just four months ago and has already progressed to the 12thKyu (red and white belt).

Savannah's mum, Claire Anderson said: "From the age of two, Savannah tried ballet, gymnastics and dance but she never took to them.

"Karate is her passion, she wanted to try it from a young age, but she had to wait until she was old enough to attend."

The Midland karate school usually allows children from the age of five to join; they are able to teach students from four but usually find that they are not yet ready to fully comprehend what is required, but due to Savannah's enthusiasm and willingness to learn it allowed her to take part a year early.

Paul Smith, Karate Instructor said: "Savannah is one of the few four year olds we have enrolled at the academy that have managed to achieve the required standard at such an early age. We are very proud of Savannahs achievement as we are of all our students.

"I very much look forward to teaching her over the years and hope that she continues to develop her understanding of Karate as she progresses through the grades. It was very clear from the first lesson that Savannah had the mind set and determination to do very well at Karate. Congratulations Savannah."

According to karate instructors martial art provides three main benefits. That is mental, moral and physical development. MSKF aims to help children develop focus and gain self-confidence and respect.

Classes are held at the Paul Reynolds Centre in Stafford,
