Keepsafe Storage Centres stays ahead of the game with sponsorship of Perth exhibition

 

Keepsafe Storage Centres is showing its love for retro video games by backing an interactive gaming exhibition in Perth.

The Perth-based company, which launched a marketing campaign last year inspired by the 1980s game Space Invaders, is sponsoring an interactive exhibition being launched today by Perth & Kinross Council.

Player: Videogame Interaction from Atari to Toys to Life, developed in conjunction with the University of Abertay, is launched today and runs from July 7th until September 18th 2016 at Perth Museum & Art Gallery.

The exhibition celebrates the latest trends in digital play and the evolution of videogames, from the 1988 Spectrum to today’s PS4, and will explore how people interact with video games. It gives visitors a chance to play with consoles throughout history, from the seminal Space Invaders to the Nintendo Gameboy to the Sega Megadrive.

This is Keepsafe Storage Centre’s second major arts sponsorship recently in Perth. The company has just entered into a year-long sponsorship agreement with Horsecross Arts, the charitable organisation behind the restoration and redevelopment of Perth Theatre.

Keepsafe’s own marketing slogan, based on the 1980s video game, is ‘For stuff that’s invading your space’. Keepsafe managing director Anne Smith said:

“It’s our business to provide space for companies and individuals with an overflow of stuff, a lot of them start-up firms. That’s why it made sense for us to support the Player exhibition, one that celebrates the gaming industry, which is strong in the Tayside region with a lot of start-ups. Our ‘stuff that’s invading your space’ campaign has been hugely popular, proving that these games are not only fun but create fond memories too. We hope the public will pay this exhibition a visit for a trip down gaming memory lane.”

The Player exhibition is being launched today by Scottish videogame entrepreneur Chris van der Kuyl, Chairman of Dundee-based 4J Studios, developers of Minecraft: Console Edition. It features a catalogue of consoles for visitors, from passionate gamers to videogame novices, to play with including Duck Hunt, Sega Rally and the award-winning concept-game Line Wobbler. There will also be the opportunity for visitors to grab a sneak preview early of a game that is not due to be released by developers until later this year.

Culture Perth & Kinross are expecting the exhibition to attract gamers from all over the country to experience the exhibition’s interactive journey and enjoy Perth’s wider cultural offering.
