Staying Steady in Milton Keynes

Central and North West London (CNWL) has renamed its service in Milton Keynes that provides help to those who have fallen or are at risk of falling.

The Milton Keynes Falls Management and Prevention service is now Staying Steady Milton Keynes, though the service provided is still the same with high levels of care from staff.

Liz Adams, Falls Prevention Coordinator, said: "The change of name reflects more accurately what we do and how we help people and is more people-friendly.Our service is highly rated and valued and is committed to achieving the best outcomes for patients."

The service is provided to any person (mainly those aged over 65) registered with a Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group general practitioner (GP) who has fallen or is at risk of falling.

It offers specialist assessment, treatment and advice on how to reduce the risk of falling and promoting staying steady when walking.

The help can include: telephone and/or written advice; an appointment to discuss daily activities, medical history and history of unsteadiness; provision of equipment to help in daily activities; appointment with the consultant in clinic; individual therapy; and attendance at the Falls Prevention Programme, which provides exercises and education.

The service accepts referrals from health and social care professionals.  It also accepts self-referrals from people who have fallen or their family members.

Referrals should be made to the single point of access telephone 01908 686751 orspa@mkfalls.co.uk, websitewww.mkfalls.co.uk (community-based falls prevention service).

Staying Steady Milton Keynes also provides training for health professionals, social workers and volunteers working with people in the community, as well as carers working in residential and nursing homes and gives informal talks to groups about how to stay steady.
