TREMCO structural protection systems backed by technical support

Successful installation of high-performance waterproofing systems (liquid-applied membranes and mechanical movement joints) depends on several key factors-but principal amongst these are undoubtedly the suitability of the selected products and the competence of the specialist installer.
tremco illbruck have been one of the market leading manufacturers of a wide range of structural waterproofing and jointing systems for over 35 years in the UK market, and know that however good their products are, success comes down to the man "on the tools" carrying out the installation. This is not something tremco illbruck leave to chance, and have a commitment to supporting their products in the market by a comprehensive support programme to their specialist applicators.
"Most of the contractors we work with have many years' experience installing ourproducts but they always appreciate technical help which we are more than happy to provide," says Brett Varnam, Technical Service Representative at TREMCO. Brett, a trained chemist with many years of coatings experience-including the last 12 years with tremco illbruck-works for the Technical Services Department at tremco illbruck which is separate from the sales divisions. They are responsible for signing off specifications, training applicators, monitoring installations and ultimately issuing warranties.
"Once we get an enquiry, we visit the job and confirm a specification for a system based on the project's requirements," explains Brett.
With the ability to specify both waterproofing membranes and movement joints, the team can ensure the optimum combination of product, tailored to the specific application. For the client, this offers the additional reassurance of a back-to-back warranty for the whole system.
TREMCO'S specialist applicators have all undergone product and industry training and have regular updates.
Training is usually a one-day affair delivered either at TREMCO's Wigan facility or at the job site. "I'll give a presentation and then we'll move on to some ‘wet' work" says Brett. Practical demonstrations are often invaluable.
Once a TREMCO system has been specified, Brett remains in contact with the contractor. "I'll visit the jobsite before work starts and then regularly during the application. I also carry out some tests to ensure the application is correct," he says. This includes moisture testing of the substrate and application conditions; pull-off tests to check the substrate and preparation; monitoring the application; and post-application testing such as film thickness and slip/skid testing of trafficable systems where required.
