MY VIRTUAL MISSION FITNESS AND MOTIVATION

APP THAT TAKES YOU ON ADVENTURES

ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD

My Virtual Mission is setting itself apart from other fitness apps as a more than just a step and calorie counter with its ability to be a goal-setting and motivational tool that includes a function to enable users to set up a long-distance cycle, run or walk anywhere in the world.

Adam El-Agez, from New Zealand, is the 36 year old entrepreneur of My Virtual Mission. He says: ‘I wanted to create something that is really fun and more than just a fitness tracking tool. With My Virtual Mission you can go on a virtual adventure anywhere in the world. Heading somewhere exciting, somewhere famous or somewhere that holds personal significance adds real depth to your fitness challenge.  You could aim to run the length of the UK or Africa - or if you're feeling really ambitious, the circumference of the earth! With every run you get to see your progress.'

Adam is keen to highlight the difference between My Virtual Mission and other fitness apps out there. ‘The key point of difference is that My Virtual Mission missions actually helps people stay focused and motivated to exercise over the longer term. When a person sets up a mission from one point on a map to another they are, often without realising it, creating a SMART goal for themselves.

‘The fitness app market is flooded with a large number of "measure my run/ride/walk" type apps. My Virtual Mission enables a person to visualise all those distances that they are doing by plotting them towards a goal on a map, rather than letting them all just stack up and become redundant.'

My Virtual Mission users are reporting a ton of benefits by using My Virtual Mission. People are finding that it really helps them through flat patches in their motivation. ‘They keep going because they don't want to give up on all of their progress that they can actually see on their mission or because they can see how close to the finish they are. It's kind of a "push" and "pull" effect to keep exercising during times that they would have possibly just skipped a few sessions or given up altogether,' says Adam.

He adds: ‘A lot of people say that when they are out exercising, they often push themselves a little harder so that they can reach their next town or landmark along their mission. For example, a swimmer may do an extra few lengths in the pool purely because they are on a virtual mission to swim the English Channel or a runner do another kilometre so that they can make it to the next town along their mission path. This helps people stay focused and motivated over the long term as well as during their exercise sessions.'

My Virtual mission also lets you set up two types of group missions so you can either challenge friends/colleagues to a virtual race or you can work as a team to complete an outrageously long mission together. Adam has been piloting My Virtual Mission within businesses. ‘People also get a kick out of setting up group missions as a competitive challenge and we are seeing an increase in companies setting up a mission as part of their corporate wellness program.'

Adam is adamant about the unique benefits of My Virtual Mission: ‘People can experience the feeling of accomplishment when they see themselves advancing along their mission path. Success breeds success and once a person has made it past around 20% of their mission distance they tend to feel really confident and committed to completing their mission and itching to start another one.

‘People also find it really interesting and sometimes a bit of learning experience when they check out the places that they travel through on their virtual mission. Features such as Google Streetview, images, current time and weather conditions at each position along their mission path, create an interesting and often educational component to doing a mission.

‘People using My Virtual Mission set up missions for a large number of reasons, including bucket list destinations, religious pilgrimages, romantic meet ups, famous routes or just interesting locations around the globe are common ones. They travel all over the world, travelling across Africa, from London to Ireland, to Paris, to Australia. The possibilities are endless.'
