Specialist lifting equipment manufacturer Meclift is developing its international dealer network and has appointed Cooper Specialised Handling, the dedicated heavy handling division of Cooper Handling Group, as its new distributor for the UK and Ireland.
Comprising unique heavy capacity variable reach trucks and container movers, the Finnish company's range has an enviable reputation for performing in demanding environments, including port and rail operations and nuclear processing plants.
Tony Rooney, Managing Director at Cooper Handling, said: "This is an exciting development for us. Adding Meclift to our ports and heavy lift product portfolio means we can expand on our capability to develop best-fit solutions for our customers.
"The effectiveness of variable reach machines has been long-established in the agricultural and small industrial sectors, and they have completely dominated container handling, so bringing this concept into heavy capacity forklifts is a completely natural move for both the market and ourselves.
"We look forward to working with Meclift to raise awareness of the brand in the UK and Ireland and to showcasing how its quality, robust equipment can tackle container handling, loading, unloading or lifting, and pallet handling in the most challenging conditions."
All of Meclift's container movers fit through narrow terminal doors and under road bridges and are capable of lifting containers on and off a standard highway chassis. They can also be attached to most terminal tractors, offering added flexibility.
It is, however, in the variable reach truck range where Cooper sees the greatest benefits and opportunities. Available in capacities from 16 tons to 50 tons, Meclift manufactures the only reach truck capable of both loading and lifting the same container. If it is not driving inside the container, the Meclift truck can also reach inside using its telescopic arm. As Tony Rooney comments: "At last there is a solution for de-vanning containers which has long been a handling issue for years."
To expand versatility yet further, Meclift has developed a series of lifting attachments, including a double fork system, loading box, coil ram and paper clamp. Since all attachments are interchangeable throughout the range, customers can usemachines for multiple purposes. This customer-centric approach to problem solving reflects the consultative-led approach taken by Cooper to meet specific materials handling requirements.
Veli-Pekka Uotinen, CEO at Meclift, added: "The time is right to build our presence and grow our share of the UK marketplace. We are confident that working in partnership with Cooper, the UK's only independent and dedicated specialised heavy lifting solutions provider, will enable us to achieve our goals."
Cooper Specialised Handling is also the exclusive dealer for Sany port and industrial heavy handling equipment for the UK and Ireland, the sole importer and distributor for Mantsinen cranes for solid and bulk quay-side handling and a specialist in Konecranes lift trucks.
