Nullifire innovation offers the complete solution for specialist fire contractors

Nullifire, a tremco illbruck company, has always prided itself on innovation in its chosen field of passive fire protection.  The company pioneered water-based technology in the 1980's, and has recently introduced the SC900 series, the patented high-build, rapid cure solution which is proving highly successful in the 120-minute sector for both offsite and onsite work.

Nullifire's rise from a small Coventry-based company to one of the worldwide leaders in intumescent coatings has been phenomenal. Our unremitting focus on fire protection for buildings and construction has been consistent. This is the area that we excel in. It is driven by our desire to protect people and property and making sure that, if the worst happens and fire breaks out, then the consequences are minimised to the lowest level possible.

We could not do this without our commitment to innovation. At Nullifire, we have a team of development chemists continually working on new products and new technologies that will make the passive fire protection of the future even better and we are in touch with our market, talking to our customers as to how we can develop our products.

One example is the SC900 series which has answered the demand for a product that is high build and fast cure. It means that buildings - particularly multi storey 120-minute rated - can be protected in a matter of hours as opposed to days or even weeks if using a conventional product. We did this by turning conventional wisdom on its head. Instead of multiple coats, taking 24 hours each to dry, we went for a product that took just one or two coats and dried in matter of hours.

The initial benefits are obvious, but then they extend to the speed that follow-on trades can get into the area and the fact that the product can be used at lower temperatures and is far more shower-resistant than any other product. As a result, SC900 is now being used across the globe for prestigious projects where a contractor needs to save both time and money whilst still offering the highest level of fire protection.

However, Nullifire never rests on its laurels. We are consistently revisiting our existing products seeing how we can improve them, and take them to the next level of performance. Another example is the new SC802 product for the 60-minute market. We know water-based products inside out; after all, we originated that technology, and our previous product, S707-60, led the market for many years. Our new product takes performance to the next level. The product was designed to be very easy to spray, reducing downtime on site through blockages, and so it proved in trials with contractors. Our trade partners also said that they needed a product that would protect all steel section types, so we have one product that can be used on I-sections, hollow sections and cell beams, and still give the lowest loading on the market.

All of this wouldn't be possible without having access to the wider resources of the tremco illbruck group with centres of excellence able to transfer technology across the group and the dedication of the R&D team in developing solutions. Of course, we keep up with the constant changes to technical standards and adapt our products accordingly, but it's the innovation and the strength of the company and dedication of the people behind it that really sets Nullifire apart.
