Return of free community learning

A fun learning experience is in store for anyone who wants to learn a new skill or improve their chances of landing a new job, thanks to a Stafford-based housing association that's celebrating its 10^thanniversary.

Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) has launched its latest Community Learning Programme and is planning to build on the success of previous years by offering people the chance to obtain a variety of new skills and qualifications including a City and Guilds in Maths and English.

In 2015 the Community Learning Programme attracted scores of people from communities across Stafford and surrounding areas, convincing the housing association to go the extra mile to press ahead with the programme for a ninth year in the face of a tough economic environment.

Karen Armitage, Chief Executive: "We are delighted to be able to deliver these courses once again as we know the difference they make to both individuals and the wider community. As we celebrate our tenth anniversary we want to continue supporting the communities we operate in and the Community Learning Programme has proved a fantastic way to help build stronger communities.

"The diverse programme of workshops includes everything from improving employability skills and finding your way around the internet to growing your own veg and simple DIY skills."

The programme is being run with the help of partners from across the community, with events being staged at convenient locations across the area, and they are free for everyone.

"By building on the success of previous years, we hope that many more people will be able to discover talents and skills they never knew they had whilst building their confidence," Julie Harvey, Neighbourhoods Manager said.

"These skills can then be put to good use by those looking to get back into work whilst for others the programme provides the ideal opportunity to make new friends or get involved in their local community."

David James, a SARH customer who has previously benefitted from the Community Learning Programme, added: "I would advise anyone to take the opportunity to try something new and book on a SARH Community Learning Programme course - it could change their life too!"
