Disabled Bromsgrove DJ asks for help to upgrade his wheelchair with art

PRESS RELEASE

‘PIMP MY WHEELS': DJ ASKS BUDDING ARTISTS FOR WHEELCHAIR TO BE PIMPED FOR COOL NEW LOOK

Ben Kelly, 31, is asking budding artists to help him upgrade his wheelchair to create a cool new look for his summer DJing events in 2016.

Ben, who has been in a wheelchair all his life with Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus, says: "I spend every moment of my life in my wheelchair, and it looks pretty boring, to be honest. I'd love to have some cook, funky art on my wheelchair that makes it stand out and look awesome when I go to DJ at events."

Ben, who lives with his parents in Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, hasbeen in a wheelchair all his life and suffers from Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus, but is also a well-established DJ in the West Country and Midlands.

Ben says: "I went into hospital in October 2015 and came out in January 2016, and my chair is the constant thing in my life. It could do with a revamp and I'm inviting any artistic talents who'd like to design me a cool new look to send me their ideas. I can then ride around showcasing their artwork, and I get funky new wheels! In my job as a DJ I want to show off my personality through my wheels and I'd love the design to reflect my fun side."

Ben is open to any ideas for the ‘pimping' of his wheelchair. The chair style is Invacare, model spectra XTR HD, number 281113. The back rest measures 50cm from left to right and 60cm from top to bottom.

Ben adds: "Any designs are welcome - the funkier and more fun, the better! Wheels, back rest, side panels can be pimped - I'm open to suggestions! If artists want to find out more about me to help inform their designs, they can contact me atbkelly22001@hotmail.com. Designs need to be sent in to that address by 30 May and we'll announce the winner in June. The winner will get their design paraded around the West Country when I go to gigs and events and we'll be having a photoshoot of the design and the winner when it's ready to rock. I really look forward to seeing what talent is out there!"
