NEW BOOKTRAILER-http://bit.ly/1UhRnh5
Bob and Richard are grammar school boys ‘done good'. Starting life in similar working class homes they have progressively climbed the ladder until they are able to both sit comfortably and look back on their lives with the keen Northern wit that never left them, even after years of life in the south. As they reflect on their loves and business decisions both try to find an explanation to fit their lives: Bob seeks purpose, Richard meaning. While soul-searching, the reader is witness to an exemplary part of British history - from their childhoods in post war Northern England to the boom years in a prospering South.
The book takes a unique look at topics close to the heart of the author - and indeed to many readers - romance, religion, business sense and social mobility. The influence of the author's dry wit and philosophical thinking combine to create engaging dialogue and fabulous banter between the male and female protagonists.
About the author
The book is informed by (but not completely reflective of) the author's life and his learnings as a senior finance director of GEGB at the time of the miners' strike, the Sizewell Inquiry and privatisation, as well as his education in later life (John took an external London degree in Divinity in his 60s).
John, 70, was born in Lancashire. In 1991 John received an OBE and shortly afterwards suffered his 15 minutes of fame when he publicly gave a dividend to charity amidst the fat cat furore.
Northerner John is married to southerner Janet, living just north of London with three grown children and their old family dog. They return to their Lancashire home in the Fylde very regularly. Not fancying a memoir, or his family's story, John instead recorded his Lancastrian sense of humour in a family saga, a fictional novel, as well as documenting a tumultuous period of British history. History John just happened to live through.
