'Roll your own' healthy food snack In the Nood launched for Summer '16

PRESS RELEASE

NEW HEALTH FOOD SNACK WITH A TWIST LETS YOU CUSTOMISE AND ROLL YOUR OWN ENERGY BALL

A brand new health food snack called In the Nood has launched for Summer 2016. In the Nood is a ‘roll your own' make-and-go energy ball that can also be customised by adding additional ingredients.

In the Nood is the new kid on the block in terms of healthy, guilt-free foods and, with an added twist, you can roll your own! The packs have no added sugar making them a great addition to a healthy eating regimen. Raw, Vegan, Paleo and gluten free, In the Nood is the perfect roll-grab-and-go snack that is tasty and guilt-free.

One ball is a 25g serving, coming in at about 166 Kcal and you can create 7 x 25g balls per pack.  They come in three flavours: Orange and Cacao, Simpy Cacao, and Crunchy Cacao.

The brains behind In the Nood are Alex and Sam Lai, a husband and wife team from Gloucestershire, who created their 'roll your own energy ball' to stop those mid-week, mid-afternoon cravings and add a healthy dose of the good stuff, instead of the usual sweet treats.

They say: "In the Nood are healthy snacks with nothing to hide. They come in a pack with fully mixed dates, coconut, cacao and other amazing ingredients so you can roll your own energy ball. With three flavours available we've created something that's nutritious and customisable for folks' own recipes, and with no added sugar, they are a great pre or post work out snack, or a snack on the run, or, if you fancy it you can eat it from the bag! Kids will love them too - a whole host of creativity at their fingertips with them making their own recipes and creating fun cookie cutter shapes!"

"The In the Nood energy ball mix is just full of good stuff such as antioxidants, fibre and minerals and no added nasties. It's all about being able to 'roll your own energy ball' to stop those cravings and add a healthy dose of what's great, instead of reaching for the usual naughty stuff."

Sam, 43 and her husband Alex, 37, moved back to the UK from Australia to launch In the Nood this year. They quit their jobs in Australia in 2015 and chose to set up their husband and wife business producing In the Nood as a raw health food snacks in the Cotswolds.

Sam remembers how she came up with the idea for In the Nood: ‘Whilst on maternity leave I was trying to focus more on good health and nutrition, and I found that to source and have on hand tasty, healthy snacks outside of the usual fruit options was challenging.

‘I was fortunate that I lived in a part of Sydney that was a renowned foodie hub but so often the healthy prepackaged bars or ready to eat snacks did not inspire me to go back for more.

‘I found that I could make treats and snacks for myself choosing raw ingredients to suit my palette but realised that it took time (I had a young baby - it wasn't going to happen!) and broke my blender - dates are not easy to process!

‘Whilst creating some homemade energy balls one day and bemoaning another love/hate interaction with my blender and the dates, my husband suggested how easy it would be to have a premix paste where the hard work is done for you and all you have to do is roll and go. I loved it! Mainly because it tackled the issue that everyone's tastes are different so you could customise it, but also that it was a store cupboard ingredient that you could have on hand to pull out whenever you needed it without having to add anything else!

‘We talked and researched our local health stores, supermarkets and online websites and decided that there was nothing out there that delivered this in the market. So, we made some trial packs up and conducted a survey monkey questionnaire with our friends under the strict direction that as it was anonymous, complete honesty had to be given for us to take the results seriously. Even if they were damning!

‘The results were incredibly positive and with a combination of their feedback, our belief and desires and momentum in the health food market, we decided to pack in our corporate jobs, sell our house, move to the UK and launch our own business making the pastes. Our thoughts were that if we didn't do this now, then we would never do it and we did not want to reflect upon a lost opportunity of starting something together for the benefit of our family's future.

‘The inspiration for our first energy ball flavour came from a paleo chef in Australia who created her energy bites with freshly grated orange zest. I researched online recipe sites and visited organic confectionary categories in retail on how we could recreate something similar without using any nasty flavourings or alcohol laded extracts and found that Sweet Orange essential oil was a fantastic addition for zest and that food grade organic essential oil worked perfectly in its place. This led to my husband and I brainstorming with each other on how we could create texture (enter the Crunchy Cacao Nib flavour) and also a unique base flavour for personalisation (Simply Cacao). We had our three flavours!

‘We are really excited about In the Nood in the health food market and cannot wait for it to hit the shelves. Folks can order online currently and we love to see the inspiring way people are customising our energy balls via social media.'
