Inside-out - Scotland's first external façade made from DuPont™ Corian®.

In the first application in Scotland of DuPont™ Corian® as a rain screen façade, architectural practice Chambers Mcmillan has created an elegant exterior ‘shell' as part of an architecturally sympathetic extension to a much-loved period home. The addition creates a small garden room with a canopy covering an external area and connecting it to the house, including a linear workbench which continues through the glazing to the outside area beneath the canopy.
 

Maximising the multiple benefits of DuPont™ Corian® high-tech surface, this high performance rain screen has an enduring beauty. Corian® Quality Network Industrial Partners, RMC Worktops delivered the precise fabrication, preparation and installation of approximately 35sq m of the material, supplied by CD (UK) Ltd.

The 45 degree angled corners and junctions help create a seamless effect between the walls and the roof, which has concealed guttering. The visual solidity of the Corian® cladding complements and contrasts with the Victorian stone-built original structure, while the Anthracite colour specified is tonally similar to the existing slate roof, while having a lustre that brings the Corian® to life on the most overcast days.
