Scottish Skier is British Champion
Charlie Guest, one of the UK’s top alpine
skiers, has continued her journey back to the top of the skiing elite after a triumphant win at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships last week where she was crowned British Ladies National Slalom Champion.
This win comes at the end of a strong season
for the 22-year-old from Perthshire, who recently broke into the top 100 in the world and last
week skied into 9th position at the Europa Cup Finals in La Molina, Spain : Charlie’s first ever top 10 finish on the Europa Cup circuit.
Showing her determination and commitment to
her sport, Charlie has battled her way back to the top after a career threatening crash on the slopes in late 2014 left her with four broken vertebrae. In true fighting spirit, Charlie battled back to fitness very quickly and was back on the slopes just 6 weeks after the accident.
Speaking of her win at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships, Charlie said:
“I’m just over the moon to have won the
national title. The race went really well even though the conditions were
pretty tough. It has been a challenging period for me with my injuries from the
accident in late 2014 followed by a herniated disc last October. But over the last few months, everything has come together
really well. We have had to make a lot of changes to my training as well as bring down the volume and the intensity. So it is a fantastic feeling to be back on top of the podium.”
Now the British Slalom Champion again, Charlie is aiming to continue building on her run of top
results with qualification for the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang 2018 firmly in her sights. Charlie added:
“While it’s brilliant to have some good
results under my belt, I know there’s still a lot of room for improvement and I need to keep working
really hard to be in contention for Pyeongchang in 2018. It’s a dream of mine to bring home a Gold medal and every
win takes me closer to that dream. I have an amazing team around me, my coach and family have been incredibly supportive, so I want
to do as well as I can for them as well.”
Charlie will be competing in the Austrian
Slalom Championships this week and will be aiming for some more top results. To
