A well-known figure in Europe's motive powersector has battled against the elements to scale peaks and fells in the Lake District, north west England, raising nearly £1,700 for cancer research.
Gus Whyte is Sales Director for the UK and Ireland at Hoppecke Industrial Batteries, the leading specialist for industrial battery systems. As part of the ‘Climb for Life', he and his wife Liz went up and down several of the region's most challenging hills with members of the BOSS (British Office Supplies and Services) Federation to raise vital funds for The Institute of Cancer Research.
Each team climbed a different peak - such as the 891m high Nethermost Pike, the 596m Outerside and the 823m Cofa Pike - to spell out the message "No to cancer". In all, the BOSS team raised £3,575.00, against a target of £3,000, while on their own Gus and Liz were sponsored to the tune of £1,682.00. The overall event raised over £100,000.
Gus, who wore a kilt and a windjammer as he battled against horrendous weather, virtually zero visibility and gale force winds on the peaks, said: "Taking part in the Climb for Life was an incredible experience and for a very worthy cause. We are so grateful to everyone who sponsored us and absolutely delighted to have raised such an impressive amount of money."
Hoppecke's Managing Director Jason Howlett added: "Gus's determination has served Hoppecke well over the years and ensured satisfied customers throughout the UK and Europe. We knew he and Liz would complete this gruelling task and raise substantial funds for cancer research and we are proud of their achievement. We understand the kilt has now been framed!"
