How To Beat The January Blues In West Cornwall
Scarlet Wines & The Vineyard Tablein Lelant, has the perfect antidote to the seasonal lethargy which threatens to engulf us all at this time of year.
Not only is the wine shop, café and delicatessen open every day at a time when many others close, but owner Jon Keast is also hosting food and drink events to encourage people to try something new in 2016.
Jon explains: "So many people write-off January and February as hibernation time, but I disagree. It's the perfect season to get out and about, with quiet roads, deserted beaches and plenty of cosy venues where you can sit back and relax. As a local I'm always gutted when so many of my favourite haunts close, so I've vowed not to do that here at Scarlet Wines!"
The café at Scarlet Wines - The Vineyard Table - will be open every day from 9am, serving breakfast, coffee and cakes, lunch and snacks.
Head Chef Oliver Hudson said: "Our rustic food is just as appealing in winter as it is in summer. At this time of year, we turn our attention to hearty stews, North African spices, and warm salads packed with nuts and seeds."
A popular roast is served every Sunday, with beef, pork and lamb on rotation and recommended wines to match.
On 23rdJanuary, Jon and the team will host a Burns Night Celebration, and The Scarlet Wines Whisky Club will also be in session.
The annual celebration of Scottish literary hero Robbie Burns is a chance to hunker down for a night of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, warmed from within by samples from an extensive world whisky selection, and from without by the flames of the roaring wood burner.
Tickets are £25ph, and spaces usually sell out quickly.
The Scarlet Wines Feast Nights return on 6thFebruary; this time guests can enjoy the food and flavours of Spain, with some of Jon's interesting and sometimes unusual wines to match.
Jon explains: "Our Feast Nights give people the chance to become more familiar with the food and drink of a particular country or a region, as we serve dishes and wines which are typical of that area and which naturally enhance each other."
He adds: "Some of my favourite wines at the moment are Spanish - there is so much variety on offer and the wines tend to be good value, so our guests will be in for a treat!"
Tickets are £28ph and again, early booking is recommended.
