Magden helps builders' merchant expand product lines

North of England building products distributor Magden has been credited with helping a fast-growing builders' merchant introduce innovative new products to its customers.

Darnell Trade Prices, set up in 2009, is expanding quickly. Having moved to larger premises in Newburn, near Newcastle, in 2013, the company recently opened its second branch in Gosforth.

Owner Colin Darnell explained: “We started the business at the beginning of the recession and, in hindsight, the timing turned out to be a blessing. Builders were facing cost pressures, which meant they were willing to shop around, I made sure they got the best deal and great service.”

Having previously worked in the building trade for 14 years, Colin has an in-depth understanding of the products that will meet his customers’ needs.

Working with Magden, he has successfully introduced customers to the Kestrel roofline and cladding range and received positive feedback.

The builders’ merchant is now introducing further plastic building products supplied by Magden. These include indoor decorative panels, which are used for ceilings and as an alternative to tiling for bathrooms and wet areas, and low-maintenance, uPVC decking from Fitrite.

Colin said: “While we had a good range, Magden has introduced us to products that aren’t easily found elsewhere and could be of benefit to our business and customers.”

Magden, which has five branches across Lancashire, Yorkshire and Tyne and Wear, has earned a reputation for providing high levels of customer support.

Having made its name as a specialist supplier of PVC roofline and insulated glazing products, Magden is expanding its range of building plastics to offer greater opportunities to customers.

Laurence Hicks, commercial director of Magden, said: “Colin’s understanding of customers’ needs and focus on providing great products and service has proved to be a winning combination.

“Darnell’s Trade Prices is in an exciting phase of its business and we are very pleased to be able to support them in this time of expansion.”
