One of the UK’s most historic and influential art societies, the NSA exists
today as a dynamic group of around 90 contemporary artists. An inclusive
approach to both subject and medium and the active recruitment of new and
emerging artists have allowed the NSA to re-imagine its historic legacy and
position itself as one of the country’s most critically relevant art
organisations.
Showcasing the diversity of working practice within the NSA, this
exhibition is comprised of new works from a full range of media including
painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and video art. Participating
members include Ian Penna, Dot Searle, Julie Moss, Pippa Young, Patrick
Haughton, Amy Allbright, Gareth Edwards, Kate Walters, Volker Stox, Rachael
Reeves, Jessica Cooper, Denny Long, Phil Booth, Belinda Whiting, Anne Wallace,
David Chisholm, Ken Turner, Stuart Ross, Peter Webster, Morwenna Morrison,
Janet Lynch, Vince Tutton and many more.

Notes to Editors
The Newlyn Society of Artists
was founded in 1896 by a group of painters in order to arrange and manage
exhibitions at the then newly built Newlyn Art Gallery. Key developments in British
art over the last century are reflected in the names of the many artists who have
been members of the NSA, including Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron, John Wells, Roger
Hilton, Paul Feiler, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Sir Terry Frost and Margo
Maeckelberghe.
The NSA’s current members list includes a wealth of talented
artist working in a diverse range of media. Recent exhibitions have included Lineage (2007) which explored
contemporary transformations of historical material; The Drawing Show (2008) selected by Kate Macfarlane and Mary Boyle;
the collaborative show Double Vision
(2009) in which NSA members worked in partnership with non- artists; Reality Check (2010) in which artists
explored political, perceptual and environmental concerns; a discursive
exploration of Print (2011) curated
by Bernard Irwin and Jesse Leroy Smith which featured drop in workshops, as
well as prints from regional Artists and the V & A collection, and most
recently the Critics Choice
exhibition at PZ Gallery, Penzance, curated by The Spectator’s Laura Gascoigne.
