Graham Rice picks up the Garden Media Guild’s Blog of the Yearaward2014

The Garden Media Guild Awards were held at The Savoy, London today. The awards recognise the very best communicators and media professionals across the gardening and horticultural industries. Graham Rice beat other top blogs to scoop the Blog of the Year, for Transatlantic Gardener.

The Garden Media Guild works to raise the quality of writing, photography and broadcasting in the gardening and horticultural world and works with professionals across all communication disciplines.

Graham Rice’s Transatlantic Gardener focuses on garden plants, native plants and invasive plants. Graham reviews books about plants, comments on wildlife and the smartness and absurdity of plant names and discusses the transatlantic life from Northampton to Pennsylvania.

Speaking about the blog, the judges commented: “The overall winner was Graham Rice’s Transatlantic Gardener has that little bit extra. The blog is an entertaining, informative and witty account of the blogger’s gardening exploits on both sides of the Atlantic – at his homes in Pennsylvania, USA, and rural Northamptonshire.

It’s clear to the judges that Rice has a deep interest in all things horticultural and his passion for the subject is evident from his writing, which has the ability to draw you into his world. His subjects are wide ranging, timely and discussed in a way that shows he has a huge depth of understanding for plants and horticulture. Intelligently written with lots of detail, observations and personal anecdotes, the words are supported perfectly by his photography. This is a blog you can trust when you are wanting to know the latest about all things plants.”

The Garden Media Guild Awards 2014 are open to everyone who creates or publishes gardening material, not just Guild members. The awards provide an opportunity for new talent and established players to demonstrate their skill within the industry.

The 2014 Awards Lunch offered a unique chance to network among some of the best-known faces and most influential players in the gardening world.
