West and South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw CSU (WSYB CSU)and North Yorkshire and Humber CSU (NYH CSU) merged today to create a £90m NHS business serving almost 6m people across the north.
Branded Yorkshire and Humber Commissioning Support (YHCS) the new CSU will continue to provide commissioning and business support for 23 CCGs, more than 730 GP practices and 80 other customers in the NHS and beyond.
YHCS will be led by Managing Director Maddy Ruff, a prominent voice among CSU leaders in the future of primary care debate.

Commenting on the merger, Maddy Ruff said:
“YHCS is one of the largest and most vibrant commissioning support service suppliers nationally. This move allies us with the Yorkshire and Humber region, an area which has a long-established global reputation for innovation. Our vision as a merged organisation is to deliver truly transformational change and we are well-placed, both geographically and economically, to do this.”
YHCS employs 1200 people across four locations. Maddy Ruff said:
“By combining our strengths we’re able to offer our customers a wider choice of services and skills, from a broader pool of expert staff from across our region. Our staff and our partners are our unique selling point – they have mostly come from within the NHS, working in the region - and they know what our customers, stakeholders and, above all, local patients want and need.”
The YHCS primary care team will undertake the organisation’s first official presence at this week’s Royal College of GPs conference and exhibition in Liverpool.
