A MOST CURIOUS WEDDING EXPERIENCE
One of the oldest manor houses in Cornwall hosted a special event this weekend, to affirm its position as the county's wedding venue of choice.
800 year oldPengenna Manor, a beautifully renovatedwedding venueon the outskirts of Wadebridge, presented ‘A Most Curious Wedding Experience' on Sunday 14thSeptember, where over 50 handpicked suppliers treated guests to a day to remember.
Nestled within the stunning countryside on the north coast, Pengenna Manor provides a dramatic and intimate backdropfor weddings and receptions and demonstrated this with a difference at this special event.
With a waiting list of suppliers eager to be there on the day, 50 of the very best were chosen to exhibit to potential brides and grooms in a way far removed from a conventional wedding fair.
Spanning the acre of grounds and gardens of the Manor, four different wedding themes were set up described as: ‘Glamorous' - which incorporated beautiful silverware, fine crockery, glass-wear and candelabras; ‘Countryside' - which included enamel jugs of meadow flowers, rustic table arrangements and natural decorations; ‘Bohemian" which saw a tent packed with day beds, rugs, silk hangings and holistic therapies; and ‘Festival' - complete with hay bales, picnic tables and jam jars of wild flowers.
Richard Blewett, owner of Pengenna Manor which has been in his family for over 150 years, explains:
"Every wedding that we arrange atPengenna Manoris bespoke. With such a wide range of choices for everything from marquees to food, we wanted to give couples a taste of what's possible, without the need for them to attend lots of different events. Our event gave anyone involved in arranging a wedding food for thought, whilst showcasing the diverse skills and facilities that our suppliers can provide at Pengenna Manor".
Suppliers included Bodmin Marquee Hire and LPM Bohemia - who sponsored the event; suppliers were not tied to traditional exhibition stands, but demonstrated their goods and services by putting into practice what they do - which enabled guests to see, drink and taste the various wares; suppliers interacted with the guests, so it was a very sociable occasion.
Rupert Preston, owner LPM Bohemia said: "Having set the scene for events which include notable names in the film and music industries, we were very excited to be part of Pengenna's special event, showcasing what we can bring to weddings in Cornwall. Pengenna Manor is highly organised and a pleasure to work with and we were pleased to be involved with this special event which was a very enjoyable day."
During the day, which started at 11am and finished at 4pm, visitors were able to see flower displays, stationary, cakes and table arrangements, whilst enjoying entertainment which ranged from magicians to fire-breathers, opera singers to Céilidh bands - all matched to their themed tent.
Guests also enjoyed champagne, Pimms, canapés and sweet treats, again in keeping with the themed settings, plus workshops on how to undertake various tasks involved with arranging a wedding, including speech-writing workshops.
The event was free for guests to attend and saw over???visitors on the day.

FURTHER INFO: Pengenna Manor, now an imposing residence, has its origins as a small single-roomed, double-height, medieval hall house. During the reign of Elizabeth 1stit was greatly extended, to include 14 rooms and even a private family chapel. It was later refaced with a grand frontage in the late 17th century by a wealthy member of the clergyThomas Pocock. Pengenna was further extended in the 18th century with a small Georgian extension, and the 19th century with a Victorian kitchen.
The Grade II* listed Manor boasts a wealth of period features that makes it historically significant including one of the earliest relief plasterwork friezes in the county depicting Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden with the serpent who tempted eve curling around the tree of temptation.
The Manor house has now been within same family for generations, with the current owner Richard Blewett becoming the 7th generation of the Blewett family to take up residence in the property. Over 150 years ago his ancestors were tenant farmers of the Manor under their landlords, the Molesworth St Aubyns, of Pencarrow House near Bodmin. Fifty years later the Blewetts bought the manor and its land for the princely sum of £2,500 and the family have lived there ever since.
