Smooth operator - Norbord launches Sterling OSB Buildboard

If you thought oriented strand board (OSB) was just too highly textured for decorative indoor use, think again.

New from Norbord is SterlingOSB Buildboard, a fine-surfaced OSB panel with a smooth, flat surface, fully-coated on both sides and primed on all four edges.

SterlingOSB is one of the UK's most widely-used building boards, an essential component of most timber frame systems and widely used in roofing, flooring and general construction.

Made from UK-grown softwood timber, it's free from knots and voids and is FSC certified and EUTR compliant, making it the ideal alternative to imported plywood.

Traditionally, OSB's characteristic surface texture - resulting from the overlapping layers of oriented wood strands - has meant that users seeking a perfectly flat surface have either undertaken the laborious process of filling and sanding the board's surface in-situ or chosen plywood instead.

Now for the first time, SterlingOSB Buildboard offers a direct alternative to plywood with all the performance advantages and environmental benefits of OSB.

SterlingOSB Buildboard is factory coated and filled with an eco-friendly primer to cut the time and cost required to smooth the surface of standard untreated board.

Like all SterlingOSB, Buildboard is made at Norbord's Inverness factory from UK-grown forest thinnings - a low-cost, sustainable alternative to prime timber veneers.

Being completely UK-made, SterlingOSB is readily available and clocks up far fewer carbon-miles than imported plywood.

SterlingOSB Buildboard is ideal for interior partitioning and other exposed applications and is supplied in 15mm and 18mm thicknesses and standard 2,440mm x 1,220mm sheets.

Easy to handle and compatible with all standard fixing and woodworking methods, SterlingOSB Buildboard offers ease of use with consistent results.
