BROADWAY LOVES BRITAIN - AND WE LOVE BROADWAY
Quarter Of A Million Brits To Visit Broadway Shows
Broadway may love British inspired theatre - with two UK sourced shows winning all the top gongs at this year's legendary Tony Awards - but it looks like British holidaymakers are returning the love as some 250,000 of us are due to watch shows in the heart of New York's theatreland this coming year.
Broadway shows have just been given a huge publicity boost thanks to the success of the two British inspired Tony-winning shows: Kinky Boots and Matilda.
Kinky Boots, the story of a family shoe business in Northampton and the most Tony-nominated show of the season, walked away with an outstanding 6 awards including: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Best Orchestrations, Best Choreography and Best Sound Design of a Musical.
Matilda the Musical, based on the story by Roald Dahl, won 4 including: Best Book of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Lighting Design in a Musical.
Helped by this high profile, The Broadway Collection, a group of top Broadway productions which can be booked quickly and easily through UK holiday companies, now believes that 250,000 Brits will visit Broadway shows this year, based on previous numbers and increased bookings so far this year.
The Broadway Collection makes it quick and easy to book shows including: Annie, The Blue Man Group, The Book of Mormon, Chicago, Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia!, Matilda, Motown, Newsies, Once, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Spider-Man, Stomp, The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, and the New York Metropolitan Opera.
