Hoppecke commits to doing business in the UK

Shrugging off any concerns about the prospects for economic growth and the uncertain commercial landscape post-Brexit, energy management specialist Hoppecke Industrial Batteries has signalled its commitment to doing business in the UK.

The German-owned company operates a successful UK subsidiary, which has signed a 15-year lease on its offices, assembly and warehousing facility in Newcastle-under-Lyne.

The move provides reassurance both to customers and employees that Hoppecke intends to continue with battery assembly, sales, rental, refurbishment and servicing in the UK - a unique offering within its industry - for the long term.

Hoppecke's Regional Managing Director-Northern Europe, Jason Howlett, says "Operating in the UK is not without its risks, since we have to contend with strong price competition and volatile currency issues, but we're focussed on building our business and are taking proactive steps to overcome these challenges.

"Whatever the outcome of the Brexit negotiations, we intend to capitalise on our market reputation, quality product range and dedicated workforce to take full advantage of the growth potential in the UK, particularly in relation to energy storage."

During the past two years Hoppecke UK has outperformed the market across all areas of its business, increasing total revenue by more than 36%. Benefitting from the trend towards greater use of electric equipment, the business has registered its third year-on-year revenue increase in the mature motive power sector.

Meanwhile, UK investment in the electrification of railway lines and new rolling stock along with Hoppecke's strong relationships with major equipment manufacturers in the special power arena means the company is well-placed to maximise its product offering and technical support capabilities.

As Hoppecke continues to secure incremental business in the reserve power arena, its main focus is on the development of a project pipeline that will deliver significant enhancements to its UK business.

Hoppecke UK recently retained its ISO9001 accreditation to the new "2015 standards" and is building for the future. Improvements in service provision have already boosted turnover, while the company's investment in a custom-built IT-based planning and reporting tool is set to drive further growth.
