Business as usual at Coppergate Shopping Centre in York City Centre

After the worst York city centre floodwaters on record have receded their effects continue to be felt in some parts of the city. Whilst this includes the JORVIK Viking Centre, York's primary visitor attraction, the adjoining Coppergate Shopping Centre has announced that all other retailers and cafes remain open for business as usual, and the on-site Piccadilly car park was unaffected.

Because the JORVIK Viking Centre remains closed until further notice, many people - both from York and visitors coming into the city for the day - have contacted the Coppergate Centre Management Team to find out if the shopping centre and car park were also affected by the floods.

Pippa Unwin, Centre Manager at Coppergate said: "As the only shopping centre within the city walls, the Coppergate Centre would love to welcome both visitors and residents to this fabulous quarter of the city - whether you would like to grab a bargain in the January sales, invest in a fabulous artwork to give a room a new year lift, or perhaps just come for a nice lunch or coffee and cake for tea, Coppergate Centre has something for everyone! 

"We are very much open for business with car parking available on site and Shopmobility scooter hire for those less able - come along and rediscover what Coppergate has to offer!"

Sarah Maltby, Director of Attractions for York Archaeological Trust commented, "Although JORVIK Viking Centre will remain closed until further notice, it is crucial that people understand that the city is open for business. 

"We operate four other attractions in the city which have continued to welcome visitors throughout the flooding, and indeed, out of dozens of events planned for the JORVIK Viking Festival during half term, only one needed to be relocated - visitors to York city centre would barely know that there has been flooding. We are looking forward to transforming Coppergate into a Norse encampment from 13 February."
