Spanish galleon to dock in Cardiff Bay

Spanish galleons once crossed the Atlantic Ocean to the American coastline, sailed the Caribbean Sea and explored the Pacific Ocean, discovering and establishing trade routes on behalf of the Spanish Crown - and now a galleon is coming to Cardiff Bay for the public to explore.

Floating museumGaleón Andaluciais a unique replica of the armed merchant vessels that were used for these maritime expeditions from the 16thto 18thcenturies and will dock in ABP's Britannia Quay before opening to the public from Friday May 10th- Sunday May 12th, from 10am-8pm.

A visit includes a self-guided walking tour with the opportunity to explore six decks, interactive exhibits and historical documents, watch videos, take photos and meet crew members.

A Cardiff Council spokesperson, said: "Over the last five years Galeón Andalucia has visited 123 countries where more than a million visitors have taken the opportunity to discover more about the history of these majestic ships and the global trade routes they plied. We look forward to adding Wales to that list, and extending Galeón Andalucia a warm welcome to Cardiff."

Associated British Ports (ABP) is kindly supporting the visit, with the galleon berthed for the duration of her visit at the Port of Cardiff's Britannia Quay.

Divisional Port Manager at ABP, Ashley Curnow, said: "We are delighted to host the Galeon Andalucía at the port's Britannia Quay, which is a unique berth located so close to the capital's city centre, which makes it preferred destination for a variety of vessels, from warships to cruise ships."

Tickets cost £12 for adults, and £6 for children aged 5-10 (under 5s are free). Family tickets for two adults and up to three children are available for £30.
