Mr Bhardwaj’s popular book ‘Facebook Love’, a
trilogy of short stories, published by Vani Publishers, was introduced and
discussed at the KALAM event held at the Quilon restaurant, Taj Hotel, London. When introducing the event, Dr Padmesh Gupta
expressed his thanks to British Council and Prabha Khaitan Foundation for
providing an invaluable opportunity for international audiences in London to
meet the prominent author.
KALAM is a series of literary events in
which eminent authors engage in a freewheeling tete-a-tete session with a
select audience comprising people from different walks of life. KALAM is the
brainchild of social activist Sundeep Bhutoria, who is also the Trustee of
Prabha Khaitan Foundation, a Kolkata-based NGO engaged in various social
welfare activities, including promotion of Indian art, literature and culture.
Dr Padmesh Gupta said: “It is my absolute pleasure to introduce Mr Vinod Bhardwaj, a renowned
journalist, filmmaker, poet and art curator. With over four decades of
experience in the field of journalism, Mr Bhardwaj has contributed
significantly to Hindi publication across the world. He is probably the only
Hindi writer who comes from the generation of writers of 1960s and connects to
today’s youth of the 21st century, by writing on topics such as
Facebook, TikTok and smart phones.”
On the topic of social media, Mr Bhardwaj
discussed at the event how the social channels have been replacing the printed
press in recent times, he explained; "The printing culture of literary
magazines has been going down in the last few years, however, social media
platforms such as Facebook have taken over much more readership than printed
versions.”
In conversation with Meera Mishra Kaushik OBE,
Mr Bhardwaj also talked about his journey within literature, journalism, art
and cinema. He gave credit to the British Council’s small branch in the Indian city
of Lucknow, where he spent his youth studying international arts and cinema.
A good number of book lovers, artists, writers
and poets from London and across the UK attended this KALAM event.
