A nursing home in the heart of the Shropshire Hills showcased song, dance and food from all corners of the globe, in a vibrant event attended by residents and staff.

The Sandford nursing home, managed by not-for-profit company Care Plus, has recently welcomed a number of new nurses and care workers, after a campaign which attracted international candidates to the market town.

An International Day provided an official welcome to the new employees and recognised the warmth of the reception that they have received in the area.

Residents and staff got together in a lounge which had been brightly decorated with colourful flags, maps and balloons. Making the occasion extra-special, some of the new nurses and carers changed out of their uniforms and into their national dress.

The renowned catering team at The Sandford created a celebratory buffet for the event featuring party food with a distinctly international flavour, with some dishes contributed by colleagues keen to create a flavour of their home nations.

Executive director of housing and care, Les Clarke, was an International Day guest.

"On a perfect sunny day in Church Stretton, it was a great opportunity to say a big ‘thank you', to our new colleagues for joining us and to the longstanding members of The Sandford family for doing so much to help them settle in," he said. "I know that our residents had a wonderful time at the event and I was so pleased to be part of such a special day."
