Housing Plus Group board member Catherine Dass is among the finalists for a Board Member of the Year award, in the national Women in Housing Awards.

The Women in Housing Awards recognise people who are passionate about the homes, care and support that communities need. Announcing the finalists, the judges celebrated outstanding board members who involve and inspire others.

Catherine Dass is a non-executive director on the Housing Plus Group board and also chairs its people committee. A coach and mentor, she has championed employee representation andactively encourages recruitment of new staff from the Staffordshire and Shropshire neighbourhoods served by the housing association. The organisation now employs 60 of its tenants, with 10 customers also among the apprentices which it has supported.

Congratulating the board member, Housing Plus Group chief executive Sarah Boden said: "Catherine is a brilliant role model for younger women who aspire to join a board. She encourages career development and opportunities for customers and staff, like no-one else".

Describing her shortlisting as "An incredible surprise and an honour", Catherine says: "Committed, hardworking women are the backbone of our sector and tend to have one thing in common; we do what we do, because we want to make a positive difference to others."
