Digital transmitter improves engine dyno air flow measurement
 
 

 Labcell has introduced the Meriam MDT500 Multivariable Digital Transmitter that considerably improves the acquisition of engine air intake flow measurements when using a filtered or unfiltered laminar flow element (LFE) in dynamometers for emissions measurements and engine research and development.

Labcell has introduced the Meriam MDT500 Multivariable Digital Transmitter that considerably improves the acquisition of engine air intake flow measurements when using a filtered or unfiltered laminar flow element (LFE) in dynamometers for emissions measurements and engine research and development.

The MDT500 measures differential pressure, line pressure and temperature; when used in conjunction with the supplied LabVIEW program, dyno operators benefit from a single reading for air flow, which is far superior to measuring three parameters and then computing air flow. The B and C coefficients for the calibrated LFE can be entered in the software to ensure flow measurements are accurate to within +/-0.8 per cent.

An additional benefit of the digital technology is that the fast response enables ten flow rate calculations per second to be performed during dynamic tests.

The MDT500 transmitter connects to a PC via a USB cable so the data is easily input into a data acquisition system for integration with other software.
