New dementia café for Canton Library

A new dementia café will be launched in the city this week.

The new café in Canton Library will extend a warm welcome to this safe space for those living with dementia, their carers and health professionals.

The café will open for the first time on Wednesday, February 28, 2.30-3.30pm, providing free refreshments and will be open on the last Wednesday of every month.

Cabinet Member for Social Care, Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Susan Elsmore, said: "Last year, we opened the Dementia Café at Central Library Hub and we're delighted that following the success of that initiative, we are now opening another café at Canton Library.

"People living with dementia, their carers and families are invited to meet at the café to enjoy a cuppa and the chance to meet with others, access information and find out about services in a safe and sociable environment.

"We are working with Alzheimer's Society Cymru towards becoming a community that is supportive and inclusive of people with dementia and initiatives such as our dementia cafes are playing a part in building adementia-friendly society here to help those affected live better and more fulfilled lives."

As well as the new dementia café in Canton Library,  the dementia café at Central Library Hub is open every first and third Thursday of the monthin the fourth floor meeting room.
