Consider "virtual appointments", asks CNWL of HIV patients

For immediate publication

HIV patients who attend CNWL's Bloomsbury Clinic who are stable on treatment are being urged to consider virtual (email or phone) appointments to replace some of their face to face appointments.

This is more convenient as people do not have to come to the clinic (which takes up a lot of time) and helps use our clinic space and time more efficiently.

We will still see HIV patients twice a year face to face but virtual appointments can alternate with these if patients are happy.

Patients should have blood tests twice a year at the Mortimer Market Centre in Capper Street (this includes Saturdays and Tuesday/Thursday evenings) or you can book online to attend Archway on Thursdays.

Clinical team leader Kevin McPeake said: "We've been offering these virtual appointments for a while now, and we want to remind people that there is this more convenient option.

"We're a very busy clinic. We see 4700 people a year, a significant increase over the last decade, but with a similar number of staff and less space than we used to have, so anything that makes consultations more efficient is good for us all!"

The renewed campaign comes with people being urged to "GIVE HIV THE FINGER" during National HIV Testing Week, which promotes HIV testing to the most affected population groups in England, men who have sex with men (MSM) and black African men and women.
