An ambitious scheme that will see 40 affordable homes built in Stafford has been given the green light by planners.

The attractive, modern, energy-efficient properties in the Holmcroft area of the town are to be built by Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) as part of its ongoing mission to deliver hundreds of high quality homes for rent and shared ownership.

The area's leading provider of affordable homes has also announced construction firm Jessup as its build partner on the project that's expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

The development inWoodlands Road and Second Avenue, designed by architect Ian Foden of BM3, will include14 one-bedroom bungalows and a mix of two, three and four-bedroomed properties.

After receiving approval for the plans from Stafford Borough Council, SARH Chief Executive Karen Armitage commented: "We're delighted these plans have been given the go ahead following extensive consultation with the local community.

"The new development will replace 16 existing SARH properties that are no longer sustainable and we've also worked closely with affected customers to ensure they can move straight into new homes being built on the site or to more suitable accommodation that best suits their needs."

Over the past 10 years, SARH has built more than 500 new homes across the areas it serves and was this year named amongst the country's top 50 house builders by a leading housing magazine.

"This latest project demonstrates our continued commitment to provide affordable, high-quality homes for rent and shared ownership in Stafford and surrounding areas," Karen added.

Clive Jessup, MD of Jessup commented: "We are pleased to continue our working relationship with Stafford and Rural Homes and look forward to delivering these traditionally built new homes for their customers. The scheme will help to provide work to local suppliers and sub-contractors."
