Managing Food Hygiene in Cardiff

Cardiff's Environmental Scrutiny Committee is due to receive an item on Managing Food Hygiene in Cardiff at its meeting on Tuesday, October 3.

At the meeting, Councillors supporting the Committee will review the work undertaken by Shared Regulatory Services to ensure that food businesses meet the required standards; consider the effectiveness of initiatives like the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme; look at how Cardiff performs against Welsh performance targets; explore challenges facing food safety and discuss what can be done to further increase standards.

Councillor Ramesh Patel, Chair of Cardiff's Environmental Scrutiny Committee, who will be running the meeting, explained: "The Council takes the issue of food hygiene very seriously as it affects every person in the city. Cardiff's Environmental Scrutiny Committee has decided to scrutinise this subject to find out if we as a Council are doing enough to ensure that we meet the required standards and ultimately ensure that the public is adequately protected.

"It is clear that recently-introduced standards like the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme have had a positive impact on food safety in Cardiff, however, it is important that as a Council we keep a watchful eye on things to ensure that all food businesses meet the required food safety standards."

The item on Managing Food Hygiene in Cardiff will be received by Cardiff's Environmental Scrutiny Committee at 4.30pm on Tuesday, October 3.

The venue for the meeting will be Committee Room 4 in County Hall and members of the public are welcome to attend.
