East Yorkshire producers in the running for industry award

 

Two fast-growing businesses based within six miles of each other in East Yorkshire have been shortlisted in theFood and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards.

 

Middleton-on-the-Woldspoultry specialistsT.Soanes & Son andThe Yorkshire Wagyu Company, based in Tibthorpe, are the only Yorkshire businesses in the running for the title of Regional Growth Business for Central and Northern England.

 

Three other businesses have also been named as finalists in the regional category that is sponsored by Grant Thornton.

 

T.Soanes & Son general manager Nigel Upson said: "We're thrilled to reach the finals of theFood and Drink Federation Awards, especially as our category is so big geographically."

 

Jonathan Shepherd from The Yorkshire Wagyu Company is equally delighted with the place in the final:"We're a young business and to reach the final of the awards is a great honour.

 

"We're up against some tough competition, but we've gotwe have great faith in our growing business," he added.

 

The FDF awards, sponsored by Santander, recognise and celebrate the individuals, ambitious initiatives and growing food and drink businesses' contributions to the economy, community and environment.

 

Ian Wright CBE, director general of the Food and Drink Federation, said: "The entries for this year's Awards are of exceptional quality. FDF is proud to showcase the talent and hard work of such a diverse mix of people, companies and organisations. Selecting the shortlist has been no easy task, but our expert judging panels have chosen remarkable finalists.

 

"This is a timely reminder of the talented, dedicated people working in Britain's food and drink industry. Given the many challenges we face it is essential that we continue to encourage more talented individuals to work in our vibrant sector."


The
black-tieawards ceremony will take place on Thursday 21 September at The Brewery in London and will be hosted by British broadcaster, writer and comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli.
