Polish Ambassador on first visit to Cardiff

The Polish Ambassador to the UK has made his first visit to Cardiff.

 The Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Arkady Rzegoki, was welcomed to the Mansion House by The Deputy Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Dan De'Ath.

 Mr Rzegoki, who was joined on the visit by Mr Leszek Rowicki, Consul General in Manchester, told his hosts how he had been to visit members of the Polish community in Cardiff and said they were extremely happy with life in the city and enjoyed living here very much.

The Ambassador raised the potential of developing stronger economic links between Cardiff and Polish cities and said how he hoped Cardiff would be involved in Polish Heritage Day celebrations and events when they take place next year.

 Cllr De'Ath said: "It was a real pleasure to greet the Polish Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Arkady Rzegoki, at the Mansion House and welcome him on his first visit to our wonderful city."

 He added: "I was delighted to learn from the Ambassador that the Polish community in Cardiff enjoy living here so much.

 "There are many members of the Polish community who have lived here for a number of years during which they have made a major contribution to the life of the city and continue to do so."

 The Deputy Lord Mayor added: "We will continue to work to strengthen our links with the Polish community in the city and promote greater cross-cultural understanding."

 Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Sarah Merry, who is the Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, also told the Ambassador about the large contribution Polish schoolchildren make to the diversity of schools around the city.
