 Mike Davies, the Founder and Chairman of the Principle Healthcare Group and Founder of The Principle Trust Children's Charity  has been honoured with an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List Announced on Saturday 17th June 2017.

The Honour has been awarded, and the Citation in The London Gazette reads for "Services to Business and to Disadvantaged Children in North Yorkshire".

The Principle Healthcare Group, which was a New Start Up Company in 2002, is now 15 Years old, still a UK British Owned Family business and comprises of seven separate Companies, manufacturing Health Food Products for Distribution throughout 40 countries worldwide. The Group employs c 250 people with Facilities throughout Yorkshire in, as well as Slovakia and Germany.

The Principle Healthcare Company won The Queens Award for Enterprise in 2012, The Times FastTrack Export 100 Business and proudly holds the Gold Award for Investors in People.

Mike's business career has been predominantly within the Fast Moving Consumable Goods arena, working for prestigious branded and private label business. He started on his career path with RHM foods, moving to Smiths Crisps, and then working within senior positions at both PZ Cussons and McBrides. His insight and experiences within these prestigious businesses gave him the impetus to setup the Principle Healthcare business in 2002 with a group of individuals whom had vast experience in the vitamins, minerals and supplements market, of which many still work within the group 15 years later.

A family business at heart, Mike is supported by his two sons Philip and Andrew within the group. Andrew Davies, Principle Group Managing Director stated "this award is thoroughly deserved and testament to Mike's personal drive, desire and passion for both business and charity. He is still fundamentally involved in the group businesses, sharing his vast experience and knowledge across the sites. We could not be more proud as a family and for him to visit Buckingham Palace again, following the Queens Award receipt in 2012, it's a fantastic achievement."

Over the 15 years of manufacturing, the Principle Group has produced a significant amount of vitamins, health & nutrition products. Key facts:

  • Produced over 40 billion tablets that end to end would go round the globe 12 times

  • Cod Liver Oil liquid to fill over 140 Olympic swimming pools

  • Over 4 million Folic acid packs, supporting ½ of pregnant women in the UK each year

  • By the end of 2018, standing end to end, we will have sold enough effervescent tubes to go the moon

 The Group are currently embarking on a new UK site, investing in Skipton, North Yorkshire that will bring about further employment in the community. Mike Davies states "following Brexit, the group see the opportunity to invest in the UK to grow internationally within key Commonwealth and International markets, which this site will permit. This investment will assist in further development within the healthcare industry, opening new avenues and markets for the business."

Mike is also the Founder of The Principle Trust Children's Charity  www.theprincipletrust.co.uk which was set up 6 years ago. His personal aims for the trust to act as a further catalyst to develop the Charity and provide even more Underprivileged and Disadvantaged Children with holidays.  Mike says "to see the smiles on the children's faces, and receive the letters after the holiday, with pictures and drawings of their time in Blackpool having fun is the motivation to us all to provide even more holidays".

Mike adds that "Our People are our greatest asset, and make the difference to our Business and to the Charity. Without having great, loyal committed people, working as a Team none of what we achieve would be possible.  I am incredibly proud to receive this Honour which is as much for our people as me."

The Principle Trust Children's Charity was established in 2011 to provide Free Seaside Holidays to "disadvantaged and underprivileged children" primarily in North Yorkshire. The Charity has 3 holiday homes at the Haven Holiday Park in Blackpool and facilitates children selected by the Charity partners, Social Workers, Sure Start etc, whom select those families and children whom would benefit from a holiday. Since launch the charity has provided in excess of 400 families and in excess of 1000 children a Free Holiday.

The next stage of the Charity Development is to extend the help to other disadvantaged children whom are suffering from severe disabilities, illnesses, recovering from operations, or suffer a life threatening illness, whom would benefit with their family from a different kind of Holiday. The Log Cabin Appeal has been launched with a target of raising £100,000 to obtain a Log Cabin in a more serene, quiet location in Yorkshire, where families can go for a holiday and have some respite and quiet time together.
