Manchester restaurants offer free food to raise cash for blast victims

Two Manchester-based restaurants are opening their doors for one day only and offering food in exchange for cash donations for the families affected by the recent tragedy in Manchester. Panama Hatty's and Featherblade Steak restaurants in Brown Street, Manchester will be putting on a unique spread on June 9 from noon.

Business partners, Lee Brennan and Rose Chamberlain who own a chain of four restaurants throughout the North-West racked their brains to think how they were able to help the families of the victims of the bomb blast on May 22 at Manchester Arena. Lee said; "We are not unique in the fact that being a Manchester based business we've been affected by the tragedy, we really felt struck by all the acts of kindness and generosity of strangers across the globe and being in the heart of Manchester we felt we needed to do something. When someone came up with the idea that we could throw our doors open and offer all food from our restaurant in exchange for cash donations to the Manchester Relief Fund we thought it was a spectacular idea".

The restaurant was initially described as a "pop-up" restaurant but due to its popularity Lee and Rose decided to make the Featherblade venture permanent alongside its leading light sister restaurant Panama Hattys, which operates in Tarporley, Prestwich and Manchester. The two restaurants have a combined capacity of 200 covers. Featherblade, named after the unique cut of steak from the beef forequarter, provides guests with complimentary infused water and savoury popcorn on arrival, serves hand cut chips cooked in beef dripping and popular sides and sauces including delicious cauliflower cheese and creamed spinach. The restaurant serves a simple, value for money, "mono-menu", offering one steak one price - steak for £10.

Daily main course and dessert specials are also available and guests are provided with an ice cream cone when leaving the premises.
