New Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor of Cardiff announced

 

Long-standing Cardiff councillor Bob Derbyshire has become the 113th Lord Mayor of Cardiff.

 

The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Derbyshire is a councillor for the Rumney ward.

 

Married with two children and seven grandchildren, Cllr Derbyshire said he was honoured to be chosen as the new Lord Mayor. The Lady Mayoress will be his wife Caroline Derbyshire.

 

Cllr Derbyshire said: "It is a great honour to become the 113th Lord Mayor of Cardiff. I recognise the challenge of being Lord Mayor and selling Cardiff to the people who come to visit our great city."

 

He added: "I came to Cardiff as a stopping-off point in 1981 and loved it so much that I've been here ever since. Cardiff certainly sold itself to me."

 

He said: "I'm thoroughly looking forward to the opportunity to tell everybody what a great place Cardiff is."

 

The new Deputy Lord Mayor is Cllr Daniel De'Ath, a councillor for the Plasnewydd ward. The Deputy Lady Mayoress will be his partner Rebecca Crump.

 

Father-of-two young children, Cllr De'Ath said he was delighted to become the Deputy Lord Mayor of Cardiff for the coming year.

 

He added: "I'm really honoured to be elected to this position. I really hope to be able to use the year to reach out to the communities and particularly the young people of the city.

 

"I will also be fully involved in supporting Cllr Derbyshire as Lord Mayor."

 

Cllr Derbyshire takes over as Lord Mayor from Cllr Monica Walshwhile Cllr De'Ath takes over asDeputy Lord Mayor from Cllr Georgina Phillips.

 

The Lord Mayor is the lead ambassador at the city's civic functions. Lord Mayors are politically neutral during their year of office, acting as chairperson of council meetings.

 

The Deputy Lord Mayor supports the Lord Mayor at the City's civic functions.
