Under the pseudonym Kite Strings,Charlie Austencreates finger-picking folk-soul music. Carefully crafted lyrics interwoven with intricate guitar parts, solid groove and unusual melodies, all emphasise Charlie's airy-yet-powerful blues-infused vocal style. On top of this, Charlie's performance is always delivered with a genuine smile and, more often than not, a conspicuous lack of shoes...

THE PIANO WORKS - COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING EMERGING TALENT

An inspired collaboration between The Piano Works in Farringdon, The Songwriting Academy, Caffé Nero and music manager - Luc Floreani has established a successful platform for the discovery of vocal talent in London.

The Piano Works has been described as ‘the hottest live music venue in London' by the Express newspaper. For the past 6 months, they have added to their formula of live music by audience request, to stageEmerging Talent Nights. Now, every Tuesday, they provide unsigned artists with a venue to showcase their talent and give them a pathway into the music industry.

Emerging Talent Nightshave already brought one gifted artist known asDan Olsento public attention. Dan, from the Faroe Islands, moved to London to pursue his singing career and is now well on his way to stardom after having performed at The Piano Works.

[image]Dan has just completed a successful tour of China after being managed by Luc Floreani. Luc is a singer/songwriter turned management agent who has worked with artists such as Amy Winehouse and Sam Smith. Other artists that have gone on to find success are blind singer Nicky Kelly from Birmingham who barely had enough confidence to go on stage, but now has a government grant to pursue her career. As well as former busker Sherika Sherard who was asked by Seal to support him on tour.

Alan Lorrimer, founder and owner of The Piano Works said: "Emerging artists need more help than ever before. Not only because of the huge number of closures of clubs and live music venues in the UK over recent years, but also because it's so difficult for musicians to earn a consistent income"

Tuesday evenings at Piano Works involve anOpen Mic, anEmerging Artistshowcase for curated singer songwriters and a singing competition open to all - known asEmerging Talent. Free to enter; it is a fantastic opportunity for vocalists to sing a song on the Piano Works stage, alongside the venue's musicians for the prize of a £100 bar tab. The winner of each weekly heat goes through to a quarter final; with a chance to win £1000. The four quarterly winners then compete for a £5000 cash prize at the end of the competition.

Alan Lorrimer explained; "Artists need to be seen live to be really appreciated. This allows them to truly develop a relationship with their audience and meet people from the industry. We have built a platform that enables this to happen."
