Spaciotempo sees interest rise as Ports get ship shape

With international maritime trade facing new opportunities post Brexit, millions of pounds are being invested to ensure UK ports remain ship shape and competitive on the world stage. Yet with this will come the challenges of logistics and warehousing finding cost effective and quick construction solutions, which will become even more of a priority as trade ramps up, says leading temporary buildings specialist Spaciotempo.

Scott Jameson, Managing Director of Spaciotempo commented:"Ports such as Liverpool, which recently opened Liverpool2 to complement the existing Royal Seaforth Container Terminal, a state-of-the-art ocean gateway for UK importers and exporters with road, rail and canal connections to the UK mainland, will undoubtedly see companies operating in and around the port face the positive prospect of expanding operations. This will mean building further warehousing to cope with the demands the increased trade will bring."

As firms in the North West gear up with the increased trade boost from Liverpool2, and as other ports around the UK are similarly investing, companies are looking at examples such as the project Spaciotempo completed at the Port of Felixstowe. This will help them to see how temporary buildings provide a viable, rapid and cost-effective solution.

Over 3000 ships arrive at the Port of Felixstowe each year, with around 30 shipping lines offering over 90 services to ports around the world. When a new permanent building was being constructed, the port needed a solution where goods could be unloaded from multiple individual shipping containers simultaneously and stored in a suitable facility. Spaciotempo's modular structure provided a bespoke, versatile and protective solution with five integrated tunnels that work as a whole, or independently if required, providing maximum storage capacity.

Scott Jameson, continued:"The Port of Felixstowe had very specific project requirements and we designed a detailed, bespoke solution that is ideal for their needs. Because our aluminum structures do not require groundworks, we are able to install both the main building, and the tunnels that lead into it, very quickly. The temporary structure will stay in place while the port is modifying its current facilities, enabling a seamless transition from temporary to permanent."

Solutions that make not just operational sense, but commercial sense too, drives Spaciotempo to continually innovate and develop structures that meet the ever growing demand from industry for a real alternative to permanent buildings.

Scott concluded:"Our work in many industries has ensured businesses are provided with immediate, cost-effective, innovative solutions; solutions which have translated perfectly to the port industry. As exports continue to grow, particularly in the agricultural and automotive sector, not being able to quickly respond could potentially provide many with a headache. Space always becomes an issue and can have a very limiting effect on day-to-day operations. Thus, having the flexibility to carry on operations with minimal disruption is fundamental. What we are finding is that port operators and their customers are looking to temporary buildings as the most efficient way of tackling expansion challenges whilst carrying on with business as usual."
