Shortlisting success for Darlington pudding maker

Artisan producer Burtree Puddings has reached the final shortlist in the Living North Awards 2016, organised by the eponymous magazine.


The pudding company has made the last twelve in the Foodie Favourite of the Year category in the awards which saw hundreds of nominations put forward in various categories.

Robert and Lea Darling launched Burtree Puddings 16 years ago when they started taking their baked products to farmers' markets.

Robert said: "We're up against stiff competition in this category but as a small business that is dedicated to making quality and delicious puddings, we're very proud to have been shortlisted."

They will also be providing puddings as part of the awards night menu, he added.

Open to local food producers, farm shops, delis and specialist retailers, businesses in the category were chosen purely on merit, nominated by readers online.

The Living North Awards held its inaugural event last year whenBurtree Puddingswas awarded Local Producer of the Year.

Janet Blair, editor of LivingNorth, said: "We always try to support and promote what is best about the North East and our awards give us a great opportunity to do just that.

"We are so proud to be able to champion the very best of the North East's food producers. In going through all the nominations, we are always staggered by the incredible choice and high standard available here in the region."

The results will be announced during the awards ceremony which will take place on November 25 in St Nicholas Cathedral, Newcastle, when guests will gather for a ‘black, white and something bright' themed evening.

Burtree Puddings recently won two stars in the prestigious Great Taste awards for itsSticky Toffee Pudding and Golden Syrup Pudding, and one star for Rich Chocolate Pudding. The businesswas also shortlisted in the inaugural 2016 delicious. magazine Produce Awards and its Christmas Puddings are currently sold at selected English Heritage sites across the country.
