The Piano Works just fine for Alan Lorrimer as he champions

the London live music club scene

Nobody ever said it would be easy but thenALAN LORRIMER, serial restaurateur and champion of London's late night music scene, doesn't do ‘easy'.

[image][image]At a time when, according to last month'sMintelreport, UK nightclub attendance has dropped by 34 million in the last five years and revenues have suffered a 21% decline, Alan Lorrimer is welcoming a growing number of customers through the doors of his latest venture, The Piano Workshttp://pianoworks.bar/.

Situated in Farringdon, in the heart of London, The Piano Works offers great food, fabulous cocktails, non-threatening on-the-door security and stylish décor. The venue is attracting club-goers, many of them women aged 24 -35 with spending power who, after a hard day's work, want something more - and certainly better, safer and more fun - from a night out.

Alan's experience in having successfully launched and run more than 18 new start up bar and restaurant concepts, including the oriental themed Tiger Lil's, the dedicated blues live music venue, Charlotte St. Blues and Guanabara, the most successful Brazilian live music venue outside of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, has given him unique insight into what the audience really want.

According to Mintel's research, the top three issues that are destroying the industry are: high admission charges, expensive drinks and overcrowding. At The Piano Works there is plenty of seating space, admission charges are reasonable and the drinks are price matched with comparable London bars.

But Alan knows that, to really make a success of a business, you have to be able to forecast trends. He explains, "I am often asked what it's like to be in the restaurant business to which I say, I am not in the restaurant business, I am in the fashion business hoping to predict the next trend. Getting the formula right at The Piano Works has been exactly that."

"In so many music venues" he says, "The club goers don't like what they have to listen to. It's not their kind of music and the inconsistency puts them off." At The Piano Works, there are two pianists/vocalists as well as four accompanying musicians, and they only play songs that are requested by the audience.

"We also run an Emerging Talent night, a Repertoire Training Academy, a Can't Sing Choir, Brazilian Sunday request night and cocktail masterclasses," he adds.

If you've always wanted to learn how to mix a Blue Lagoon, perform in front of a crowd or learn the samba then The Piano Works offers club-goers an entertainment experience - and of course, great food and non-stop live music every night of the week.

As Piano Works goes from strength to strength, one club it seems is certainly bucking the trend.
