Opening with the St Ives September Festival and on show throughout the autumn, the Leach Pottery presents an exhibition of new work by skilled maker Amanda Brier, who has worked at the Pottery since graduating with her degree in Studio Pottery in 2000. In a career that has exposed her to the very best in international ceramics, she began her time at the Leach cataloguing pots for a permanent exhibition of work by Bernard Leach, Janet Leach and Shoji Hamada. She then trained alongside respected potters Trevor Corser and Joanna Wason and spent the next five years working in the historic old pottery, learning traditional Leach making, decorating and throwing techniques.

Amanda works in porcelain, decorating by incising into the clay or painting with pigments, but particularly enjoys fluting, a method of using a sharp tool to cut vertical lines onto the pot's surface. Since its reopening in 2008, Amanda has held the position of Learning and Participation Officer at the Leach Pottery, and continues to make pots from her own studio in Falmouth.

This exhibition showcases the talent of another of the Leach Pottery's highly skilled team, and gives insight into the pottery's commitment to excellence in both the craft and culture of contemporary ceramics.

Amanda Brier runs from 10 September to 30 October in the Leach Pottery Reception Gallery. Private View Friday 9th September, 6-8pm. All works are for sale.
