July 2016 - Louise Moore, the landlady at The Maudslay Pub, Allesley Old Road, is bringing a little nostalgia back to the pub, with the introduction of a monthly afternoon Tea Dance. The Tea Dance which will run the first Thursday of every month, will be aimed at the over 55s. The first event will take place 4th August '16 at 3pm.

Louise who recently took over the running of the pub, was instantly struck with the Maudslay's original concert room cum dance hall upstairs room. The pub is believed to date back to the ‘20s and the old dance hall still exhibits the quintessential ornate vintage charm, which would have been common place back in the day, and the perfect backdrop to complement the Tea Dance.

Besides the setting, Louise's inspiration came from personal experience. Her mother was up until recently living in a retirement village where social events were held such as bingo, music afternoons and coffee mornings. She remembers fondly, up until her mother became ill, she very much enjoyed the social events. The reality of old age, is that social outlets start to restrict and one's social networks shrink, so it can sometimes be a lonely affair. Louise is hoping the Tea Dance will attract people who can enjoy two-to-three hours of good live entertainment, a delicious afternoon tea, as well as the opportunity to meet like-minded people.

The Tea Dance will start at 3pm and finish between 5.30 pm - 6.00 pm and is priced at £7.50. The price includes live entertainment, traditional afternoon tea, with sandwiches, cream scones, cakes and unlimited tea. A raffle will also be held with proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Society.

Furthermore, in most cases, people will find The Maudslay is served by the "Ring & Ride" bus, making the logistics much simpler.Introductory pricetwo-for-one will apply.

Commenting, Louise said: "My Mother recently died, but despite her illness encouraged me to set up the event as she knew it was just the sort of event her and her fellow residents would attend. Although sadly too late for Mum, I'd like to think she would have approved of the final result. She often indicated old age could be lonely, but was lucky to have good friends and family, unlike a lot of older people." I hope the ladies in particular will find this is a good reason to put on their best frocks and take a trip down memory lane..."
