Remarkable Driffield beef business shortlisted for tourism award

The team at a Tibthorpe beef business are celebrating after reaching the finals of the prestigious Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTAs).

The Yorkshire Wagyu Company has reached the shortlist in the Remarkable Taste of East Yorkshire category of the annual awards that celebrate Hull and East Yorkshire's tourism and associated industries.

Run by Visit Hull and East Yorkshire, the REYTAS recognise the best and brightest in the area's tourism related businesses and acknowledge the contribution they make to the area's visitor economy.

The Yorkshire Wagyu Company is one of five finalists in the Remarkable Taste of East Yorkshire category that also includes fellow Driffield businesses Coleman's Cider and the Side Oven Bakery. The category is sponsored by the East Yorkshire Local Food Network and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Bridlington Spa on Thursday 17th March, 2016.

Of the shortlist, The Yorkshire Wagyu Company director, Jonathan Shepherd said: "It's a huge honour to be shortlisted in the REYTAS! Congratulations to all of our hard working team and fingers crossed for the final!"

After two years spent establishing one of the biggest herds of full blood and cross bred Wagyu beef in the UK, Wolds farmers Jonathan Shepherd and Jim Bloom launched The Yorkshire Wagyu Company in 2014 to sell their premium beef direct.

Wagyu beef originates from Japan where it is renowned for its exceptional flavour and melt in your mouth tenderness and its high levels of ‘good' monounsaturated fats that give the beef its characteristic marbling.

Jonathan Shepherd was recently commended for his grassland management when he won the Yorkshire Grassland Society Kirby Cup.

Yorkshire Wagyu is currently available on the menu at restaurants including Wolds Village, Bainton, Whites Restaurant, Beverley and the Wolds Inn at Huggate and retail packs are available from The Balloon Tree at Gate Helmsley.
