Changes to Registration Services in Cardiff
Registration Services in Cardiff will change temporarily over the winter, with the registrations of births, marriages and civil partnerships due to move from City Hall while the building is closed for essential maintenance.
From October 10th the Register Office will be based at Glamorgan Archives (Clos Parc Morgannwg, Leckwith, Cardiff, CF11 8AW). The offices will be open from 9.00am - 4.00pm Monday - Friday.
All copies of birth, marriage, civil partnership and death certificates will be issued from the new premises, which will hold all statutory birth, marriage, civil partnership and death records.
Glamorgan Archives will also host all legal register office weddings and civil partnerships, where only the couple plus two witnesses are in attendance.
Larger marriage and civil partnerships, which currently take place in the St David's Suite at City Hall, will move to the newly licenced Llandaff Suite on the first floor of the historic Insole Court. The suite offers two rooms - the Cedar Room, which holds 20 guests, and the Walnut Room which has a capacity of 40.
Birth registrations will also take place at Glamorgan Archives and a successful service providing birth registrations in Hubs around the city, by appointment only, will also be expanded.
New murals inspired by Cardiff's history and musical heritage
A new mural inspired by Cardiff's musical heritage and designed by Unify Creative, the artists behind the ‘Butetown Mona Lisa,' has appeared in a Cardiff city centre underpass that runs beneath Boulevard de Nantes, connecting Kingsway with the Civic Centre.
A second mural by Wall-Op Murals, inspired by the city's history and the works of William Burges at Cardiff Castle, has been installed in the former Glamorganshire Canal Tunnel that runs underneath Kingsway.
The murals have been commissioned by Cardiff Community Safety Partnership, made up of Cardiff Council, South Wales Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner and other key statutory and third sector partners.
Improved lighting has also been installed and additional CCTV cameras introduced to the area as part of the initiative, which is funded by a UK Home Office ‘Safer Streets' grant and is primarily aimed at keeping women safe in the city centre.
Heritage learning at Cardiff Castle recognised as ‘excellent'
With 2,000 years of history stretching back to the Romans, there's a lot for visitors to learn at Cardiff Castle. Luckily the education programme on offer to the thousands of school children who visit each year has recently gained a Sandford Award for Education, having been assessed as ‘excellent.'
Assessors for the award, which is the only nationally recognised quality mark for heritage learning, praised the ‘dedicated and committed staff' and the care taken to ensure schools ‘meet their learning goals and have an enjoyable and memorable visit' and judged the delivery of education sessions to be ‘outstanding.'
New website to support older people in Cardiff to live well
A new age-friendly website has been launched in Cardiff, to coincide with the annual United Nations International Day of Older Persons (October 1).
A special two-day celebration kicked off at Central Library Hub today with the unveiling of the Age Friendly Cardiff website https://agefriendlycardiff.co.uk - a one-stop shop of useful information and resources to support older people living in the city.
Age Friendly Cardiff is a network of organisations including Cardiff Council, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, South Wales Police, third sector partners and other services, dedicated to making the city a better place for people to grow older.
The network has been working towards making Cardiff a more age friendly place for residents and visitors for a number of years and last year, the city joined the World Health Organization's Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities, becoming its first Welsh member.
Today's website launch showcased the features of the website that has been designed to help older people in Cardiff to live well by providing information on local services, activities and support.
