A special two-day celebration kicked off at Central Library Hub
today with the unveiling of the Age Friendly Cardiff website https://agefriendlycardiff.co.uk – a one-stop shop of
useful information and resources to support older people living in the city.
Age Friendly Cardiff is a network of organisations including
Cardiff Council, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, South Wales Fire and
Rescue Service, South Wales Police, third sector partners and other services,
dedicated to making the city a better place for people to grow older.
The network has been
working towards making Cardiff a more age friendly place for residents and visitors
for a number of years and last year, the city joined the World Health Organization's Global
Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities, becoming its first Welsh
member.
Today’s website launch showcased the
features of the website that has been designed to help older people in Cardiff
to live well by providing information on local services, activities and support.
The Council’s Older Person’s Champion
and Cabinet Member for Social Services (Adults), Cllr Norma Mackie, said: “Working
together with our partners, the council is committed to making our city a better
place for older people to live and thrive in.
“We want to ensure that older people can enjoy
all aspects of city life and have the opportunity to take part in activities
and events to improve their wellbeing and enrich their lives.
“Often though, it can be difficult to
know where to go for information and support about what’s available but the new
Age Friendly Cardiff website solves that problem. It’s a brilliant resource,
packed full of useful information, to support older people to live well.”
The event also included an
Amgueddfa Cymru workshop and information stalls representing Council services
and partners such as Dewis, Age Cymru, South Wales Police, Dementia Friendly
Cardiff and more.
The Council’s Digital Team were
available at the event to support anyone attending who might need some help to
access the website, or with general assistance to use digital devices.
Following last week’s Falls Awareness
Week (September 18-24), the third floor of the hub hosted a ‘Focus on Falls’
where council services, such as Independent Living services and partners
including Public Health Wales were available to support people.
Independent Living Services
showcased the wide range of services they provide to help keep older people
active and connected to their community.
The launch celebrations will
continue into tomorrow (Saturday) at Central Library Hub (11am – 2pm) with more
workshops and stalls promoting information and services for older people.
