One Planet Cardiff Summit to help Cardiff accelerate transition to net-zero

27.5.23

Businesses and third-sector organisations from across Cardiff are being brought together for a ‘One Planet Cardiff Summit' to help accelerate the city's journey to a net-zero future.

The summit on June 13th, is hosted by Cardiff Council, and will feature a range of talks, debates, panel discussions, collaborative workshops, and networking opportunities, all designed to inspire and inform a collective effort to drive the city towards a carbon neutral future.

The summit is free to attend for Cardiff-based businesses and organisations, but advance registration is required.

Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Cllr Caro Wild, said: "There are already lots of local businesses, organisations, and individuals doing brilliant work to help make Cardiff a carbon neutral capital city for the future. The One Planet Cardiff Summit is about bringing all that expertise and enthusiasm together, so we can learn from each other and hopefully develop some long-lasting partnerships that will help push us down the road to being carbon neutral as quickly as possible.

"As a council we're working really hard to bring reduce our impact on the planet. At the last count we had reduced our own carbon emissions by 13% since 2019/20. That's good progress, but the reality is almost a quarter of carbon emissions in Cardiff come from the commercial and industrial sectors, a further 38% come from transport. While the Council can have an influence over some of these areas, we need businesses, the public sector, and other organisations, to join us in putting climate change at the heart of what they do, if we are to achieve our ultimate goal of a carbon neutral city - the summit is all about making that happen."

Speakers at the Summit, which takes place at Techniquest in Cardiff Bay, from 9am-1pm, include:

  • Cardiff Youth Council and Cllr Wild -Setting the vision for Cardiff
  • Darren Stewart, Commercial Director for Euroclad -Why & how we are planning for a low carbon future.
  • Jarrad Morris, local business maker and entrepreneur-New services and opportunities.
  • Clare Sain-ley-Berry, Director atCynnal Cymru - Sustain Wales-"For the journey -  Support and guidance"

The event will also feature networking opportunities and a Q&A session.
